What We Teach
What is IEW?
IEW stands for the Institute for Excellence in Writing. It is a unique approach that provides the structure that students need to develop confidence in the writing process, while gradually guiding them toward greater independence and creativity. They will learn nine structural models (note taking, writing paragraphs, stories, simple reports, writing from pictures, research reports, creative writing, essays, and critiques) to help them organize any type of composition. Additionally, stylistic techniques (strong verbs, quality adjectives, sentence openers, and more) are taught incrementally to gently move students from the basics into more sophisticated writing.
What We Do
Write with Mrs. Brown provides engaging, mastery-based, online writing and grammar classes to homeschooling families and charter schools in the United States. We serve students in grades 3-12. Using methodologies based on the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) program, these classes provide the foundational skills needed to help students become proficient and confident writers.
How We Are Different
Parents receive weekly resources and support to aid their children in becoming better writers, while students receive dynamic instruction and join a team that fosters growth and development, leading to mastery and confidence in effective communication.
Learning to write can be engaging, enjoyable, and effective. From grammar songs that will have you humming for days to games and author spotlights that will inspire your child's inner writer, we know how to have fun while building foundational writing skills.
Write with Mrs. Brown's classes are based on IEW's proven mastery model, so parents and charter schools can trust that their children are receiving exceptional instruction that has led to academic achievement for thousands of students across the globe.
As a former homeschool parent and tutor trainer for Classical Conversations, Mrs. Brown is a certified IEW instructor who provides relatable expertise. This unique combination allows her to offer exceptional academic support to each family and charter school.
